Entered active duty after 6-30-85.

Did not refuse to participate in the program.
-
Period of Service:
-
must serve at least 2 years of continuous
active duty if initial obligated period is less than 3 years
or if applying as a serviceperson.
-
must serve at least 3 years if initial
obligated period is 3 years or more.
-
if required service is not completed,
must be discharged for Service-connected disability,
hardship, COG, RIF, disability existing prior to service, or
condition interfering with duty.
-
Must receive an HONORABLE discharge.
CATEGORY 111A - INVOLUNTARY SEPARATIONS (Public Law
101-510) - CHAPTER 30
Requirements:
-
was on active duty on 9-30-90, or on or after
11-20-93.
-
involuntarily separated by the military after
2-2-91 with HONORABLE discharge.
-
elect Chapter 30 while still on active duty.
-
pay the military $1,200.00.
-
complete high school before applying for
benefits.
Includes those who would not otherwise be
eligible:
-
those who elected not to participate in
Chapter 30.
-
Academy & SROTC graduates.
-
individuals eligible for Chapter 34 but did
not meet all eligibility requirement for Chapter 30.
CATEGORY 111 B and C - VOLUNTARY SEPARATIONS (Public
Law 102-484) - CHAPTER 30
Allows individuals who are voluntarily separated
on or after December 5, 1991, to elect to receive Chapter 30
benefits. (The two programs are:
Special Separation Benefits (SSB) and Voluntary
Separation Incentive (VSI)

Category 111B - Individuals voluntarily
separated on or after October 23, 1992
-
Category 111C - Individuals voluntarily
separated between December 5, 1991 and October 22, 1992
Individuals eligible for Chapter 32 may elect
Chapter 30 if voluntarily separated under SSB or VSI.
DOD collects $1,200.00 under Category 111B.
VA collects $1,200.00 under Category 111C. (VA
can take $1,200.00 from Chapter 32 account and refund rest to
veteran).
Other provisions which apply to Category 111A
also apply.
CATEGORY 11 - CHAPTER 30 CONVERSION (34/30 Rollover)

Must be eligible for Chapter 34 on 12-31-89
and have remaining entitlement.
-
Must have served "without a break" until;
6-30-85; or if there was a break, must have returned to active
duty sometime between10-19-84 and 06-30-85.
-
Must then serve on active duty "continuously"
for:
-
Must meet the requirements for a High School
Diploma.
-
No reduction from military pay required.
SELECTED RESERVES - CHAPTER 1606
-
Must have new 6-year commitment with the
Selected Reserve after June 30, 1985.
-
Must have completed initial active duty for
training, and have a high school diploma or equivalent before
IADT is completed.
DEPENDENTS EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE - CHAPTER 35
-
Spouses and children of veterans who died, or
are permanently and totally 100% disabled as a result of a
service-connected disability.
-
Also, spouses and children of veterans who
died from any cause while rated permanently and totally 100% disabled
from service-connected disability.
VETERANS EDUCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (VEAP) -
CHAPTER 32
-
Entered active duty between January 1, 1977
and June 30, 1985.
-
Paid into the VEAP Program.
-
Either discharged under at least honorable
conditions, or still on active duty and completed first term of
obligated service.
-
The amount of monthly payments are determined
by the number of months they contributed, or for 36 months,
whichever is less.
