GENERAL
ADVISEMENT QUESTIONS
Can I
see an advisor without being admitted?
We will be happy to
try to accommodate all prospective students. If you are interested
in transferring to UCO, please contact the Transfer Center at (405)
974-2248.
Do I
need to see an advisor every semester before I enroll?
No. First-time freshmen and transfer students are required to meet with
an advisor their first semester at UCO. Other students are allowed to
enroll without meeting with an advisor. However, you are encouraged to
meet with your advisor on a regular basis to ensure satisfactory degree
requirement completion.
How
long does it take to see an advisor?
We recommend you make an
appointment for your advising session. This can be done by calling
(405) 974-2342. Appointments are accepted during the mornings.
In the afternoon it is a walk-in basis and wait time varies. During enrollment periods, the wait can vary from no wait to
waiting in excess of an hour. We are committed to seeing students in a
timely, effective manner but it ultimately depends on the needs of the
students. For the least amount of waiting, we recommend you visit
advisement during non-enrollment periods (February, March, June, July,
September, and October).
Can I
make an appointment to see an advisor?
Yes. Advisors
accept appointments from 8 AM to Noon each day. To schedule an
appointment, please call (405) 974-2342. In the afternoons,
advisors see students on a walk-in basis.
What
do I need to bring when I see an advisor?
Please bring all copies of transfer transcripts, your current schedule, and a list of
questions you have for your advisor.
How many
credit hours should I take?
The answer to
this question should be offered on an individual basis. Keep in mind
that being a full-time student is a full-time job. If you are
working, keep a balance between classes and work hours. Many
majors take a minimum of 124 hours to graduate from UCO. To
graduate in four years, that will take 31 credit hours per year, or
approximately 15.5 hours per semester.
What
is intersession?
Intersession classes are condensed courses meeting during the weeks
between the regular semesters. Three intersessions occur during the
year (Fall—August; Spring—during Christmas Break; and Summer—May).
Despite the fact these classes meet for fewer days during the regular
semester, students should still expect to be in class the same amount of
time and experience the same rigors as a regular semester course.
Is
tutoring available on campus?
Yes. Tutoring is available from the Academic Support Center in Thatcher
Hall, Room 105. Also, many departments have tutoring for their
courses. Check with your professor to determine if any tutoring is
available for your class.
Do I
have to live on campus?
No. Though living on campus
adds to the university experience, UCO students are not required to live
on campus. Visit the
Housing Web site for additional information.
Can an advisor
help me find/get an internship?
No. Each
college or department arranges internships for students. Usually
your advisor can provide you with the name of the individual responsible
for arranging internships in your field of study.

TRANSFER QUESTIONS
How
do I know if a class transfers?
You can see if the course is listed in our approved course transfers
listed in our transfer guides. Otherwise, you will need to see an
advisor to determine transferability and applicability.
What
do I need to do to transfer a class to UCO?
Have an official transcript forwarded to the Records department at UCO.
When it is received by Records, they will determine if the course is
transferable. You will need to check with your advisor to determine
transfer course applicability.
Will
these classes transfer to ______?
We are unable to answer questions about our classes transferring to
another institution. You need to contact the transferring institution
to determine if, and how, they will accept UCO credit.

UNIVERSITY RELATED ISSUES
What
do I do if I have a complaint about a professor?
First and foremost, meet with your professor to try and resolve the
issue. If you are unable to come to an amicable resolution, the Student
Handbook instructs students to then meet with the Chairperson of the
department for further assistance.
Where
can I get my Broncho Central PIN reset?
Your PIN can be reset in the Enrollment Office, Bursar’s Office, and the
Center for Undergraduate Academic Advisement. You will need to provide
photo identification when resetting your PIN.
When
is the first day of class?
It varies every semester.
Check the online schedule for important dates
to remember.
Where
do I get an ID?
At the ID Office located on the 1st floor of the Nigh
University Center across from the Bursar’s counter.
How do I calculate
my GPA?
Your grade point average is calculated on a 4.0 scale.
A student’s grade point
average (GPA) is calculated on all A, B, C, D and F grades received. For
each course completed, a student earns grade points equal to the value
of the letter grade (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=O) multiplied by the number
of credit hours. The total number of credits will be divided by the
number of credit hours. To assist you in predicting your GPA, a
GPA predictor is available.
Where
do I get a parking permit?
Parking permits are available from the Parking Counter on the 3rd
floor of the Nigh University Center. Be sure to have your ID and
License Plate Number with you when you go to get your parking permit.
Where
do I pay my UCO bill?
You can either pay in person at the Bursar’s office (1st
Floor Nigh University Center), by mail at: UCO, Bursar’s Office, 100 N
University Drive, Edmond, OK 73034, OR via the web at
http://central.ucok.edu
(login and access the student services menu).
What
will happen to my financial aid if I drop a class?
It depends. Contact the
Financial Aid Office to determine what
repercussions may exist. You can contact Financial Aid at (405) 974-3334 or
in person on the 1st Floor of the Nigh University Center.
Where
do I take the CPT?

MAJOR/MINOR QUESTIONS
If I
change my major, what catalog year do I go by?
You will follow the catalog year that
was in effect at the time you
started attending UCO provided you have not been away from UCO for more
than 2 years. If you have been away from UCO for more than 2 years, you
will follow the catalog that is/was in effect when you return(ed) to
UCO or you may choose to use the current catalog.
How
do I declare/change my major?
Either complete a “Request to Change Major/Minor Form” available in the
advisement center OR meet with your advisor and he/she can change your
major.
Will
a “D” in a major class count towards my degree?
In some degrees a “D” is an acceptable major course grade. However,
many degrees require a “C” or higher in major coursework. Consult the
degree sheet for your major to determine what grade is acceptable in
your major coursework.
How
do I declare a minor?
Either complete a “Request to Change
Major/Minor Form” available in the
advisement center OR meet with your advisor and he/she will change your
major.
What
should I major in?
Choosing a major can be a daunting task.
UCO offers many resources to assist you in this process. The
majority of students will seek out the advice of academic advisors,
professors, and utilize the services offered by the
Career Services department
when deciding their major.
Ù
RECORDS
What
happens on my transcript when I drop a class?
It depends. If you drop the class during the “No Record Withdrawal”
period, the course will not be listed on your transcript. If you drop
outside of this period, a “W” will appear on your transcript indicating
you withdrew from the class.
I
repeated a class, why is it still on my transcript?
Repeated classes remain on the transcript but are notated by either
“RPT” or an “E” next to the letter grade. The original grade is used in
calculating your cumulative GPA but not your retention GPA.
Can I
get college credit for life experience?
UCO does not grant course credit for life experience.
Is it
bad to have a “W” on my transcript?
An occasional “W” is not detrimental to your academic or career plans.
Having an excessive number of “W’s” on your transcript can be indicative
of commitment and over-scheduling problems that you may need to
address. Talk to your advisor if you have concerns about your history
of withdrawing from courses.
Where do I go to get a transcript?
Official transcripts may be obtained from the Enrollment Services
Office, Nigh University Center, Room 118, during normal working hours
(8AM to 6PM Monday and Thursday and 8AM to 5PM Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Friday). A photo ID must be shown.
Official copies may also be obtained from the self-service transcript
kiosks located on the first floor of the Nigh University Center, just
North of the Enrollment Services Office, anytime the Nigh University
Center is open. Unofficial copies of a students' transcript can be
viewed and printed from the Student Services tab in
UCONNECT.
In order to access either the self-service kiosk OR the
UCONNECT
system, the student must use his/her UCO ID number and PIN.
There is no charge for an official transcript.
Ù
ENROLLMENT
Can
an advisor get me into a closed class?
No. Only department chairs and college deans have the authority to sign
a student into a closed class.
How
do I drop a class?
You can drop a class via the web OR by completing an “ADD/DROP” form and
submitting it to Enrollment Services.
What
is the CRN/course number?
The CRN is the course registration number…a
unique five digit number assigned to
each section for enrollment purposes. The Course Number, a four
digit number, is the
identifier indicating which department and level the course is
associated with.
What
classes should I take?
Your degree sheet indicates which classes you need to graduate. In
planning out your schedule, consult the UCO catalog to determine course
prerequisites to ensure you are enrolling in classes in the intended
order. Also, once you have your tentative schedule, you can always ask
your advisor to review it to ensure you are on the right path.
How
many hours do I have to take?
Officially, there are no minimum number of hours a person must take for
academic purposes. To be classified as a part time student, a person
must complete 6 hours (3 during summer) and 12 hours (6 during summer)
for full-time student classification. IMPORTANT: If you are receiving
scholarships, financial aid, participate in varsity sports, or receiving
other benefits, YOU MUST contact their offices to determine if a minimum
number of hours are required for you to receive those benefits.
When
is the last day to add/drop a class?
The last day to add/drop a class varies each semester. Click
here to access the
current class schedule. Then click on "Deadlines to Remember".
Can I
add a class after the last day to enroll?
No. You must enroll your classes on or before the last day to enroll.
Can
an advisor enroll me in my classes?
Unfortunately we do not have the resources available to assist students
in enrolling in courses. Advisors are available to answer your
enrollment questions, but ultimately must give you the responsibility of
enrolling in your classes. You can enroll in person at Enrollment
Services (across the hall from Advisement) or via the web.
Can
an advisor drop me from my class?
No. You will need to withdraw via the web or in person at Enrollment
Services.
What
classes are open?
To determine which classes are open, you will need to logon to the
Broncho Central website. The course schedule within the Broncho Central
system is in real-time providing students with the most up-to-date
information on which classes are open and which classes are closed.
Can I
get into a closed class?
Only the academic department offering the course can allow students into
a closed class. Each semester we communicate with the departments on
campus to determine their policy on closed classes and make that
information available to students in the Center for Undergraduate
Academic Advisement.
Ù
GRADUATION
When
is the latest I can apply for graduation?
Each semester deadlines are published indicating when to apply for
graduation. You need to apply for graduation the semester before your
intended graduation date. Application deadlines are attached to the
graduation application packet available in Academic Advisement.
Who
do I talk to about graduation?
