We call this section "The
Basics" based on the fact that some information is basic to
all students. This includes how to enroll, defining
deficiency status and remediation methods, and campus resources
available. We encourage you to review the information on
this page and, if applicable to you, discuss any resulting
questions with your academic advisor. Additionally, we
encourage you to access our Frequently
Asked Questions page for additional information.
Also be sure to access our
First-Year Tips and Suggested Schedules for information
pertaining to your major.
What is a Deficiency?
Students who are admitted to
the University with ACT sub-scores (section scores) below 19
are considered deficient in that subject area.
According to the Regents Policy, all students pursuing a
degree in the State of Oklahoma must remediate any
deficiency within a time frame stated by the university.
Students who have deficiencies must remediate the deficiency
as follows:
1. If a
student has deficiencies in English, math, or science, the
student may do one of the following:
A. Submit an ACT sub-score of 19 or above in the curricular
area in which the deficiency exists. (ACT scores must be
less than five years old.)
B. Take the Computerized Placement Test (CPT) and make the
appropriate score in the curricular area in which the
deficiency exists. To learn more about the CPT exam,
contact the Academic Support
Center.
C. Take and pass the designated 0 - level course in the
curricular area in which the deficiency exists. (0 - level
courses do not count as college credit.)
2. To remediate the other deficiencies, the student must
take an extra 3 credit hour college level course in the area
in which the deficiency exists.
